Anca Matica is the Political Manager at J&Z Strategies.
In her role at J&Z, Anca supports project execution for candidate, ballot measure, and independent expenditure campaigns, including strategic communications, press relations, political coalition building, media production, direct mail production and campaign management.
Anca got her start in politics when she signed up to intern at a local democratic party in college. At the time, she didn’t know that it’d ignite a lifelong passion in justice-oriented political organizing and strategy work. Anca started her career as an organizer on the DeFazio for Congress campaign, helping turnout volunteers and voters through executing a comprehensive field strategy to keep Oregon’s 4th Congressional District blue. While still in college, she then went on to work in the Oregon Capitol as a Legislative Assistant, working with legislative counsel to pass policy while also supporting the needs of district constituents. Eventually, she found herself supporting communications development, advocating for policy changes and funding solutions for Oregon’s immigrant and refugee populations while at the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization (IRCO).
Before joining J&Z Strategies, Anca helped win Oregon’s historic Ballot Measure 108 with 67% of Oregonians voting Yes, bringing millions of additional dollars to Oregon’s expanded Medicaid system, and finally instituting a tax on nicotine vape products.
From working on candidate and statewide ballot measure campaigns, to helping craft policy at the Oregon State Capitol, to advocating for immigrant and refugee anti-poverty justice at the Immigrant and Refugee Community Organization in Portland, Anca has seen the full 360 of political work in action.
Anca got her Bachelor’s of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oregon.
