We help deliver results for Congressional and statewide candidates, state legislative caucuses, independent expenditures, labor unions, environmental groups, and more.

We are looking for a passionate, strategic and creative operative to join our growing team in Los Angeles, California.


J&Z Strategies is seeking a Communications and Digital Associate who will be responsible for helping with media production, assisting with digital advertising, graphic design, branding, strategic communications, and client project management.


  • Work in conjunction with our team on political campaigns for candidates, independent expenditures and ballot measures, issue advocacy, marketing and advertising efforts;

  • Help with media production for television, digital and radio advertising, including shoot logistics, planning, travel and on-site coordination;

  • Bring creative insights on graphical and media elements to video production team;

  • Craft client content as needed, including but not limited to social media posts, strategy memoranda, press releases, opinion editorials, fundraising emails, candidate questionnaires, and message amplification efforts;

  • Support the development and measurement of digital paid media, digital acquisition and social networking programs;

  • Production of social media graphic assets, including creative shareable graphics for Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, as well as graphics for a range of media, print and non-social digital media;

  • Work directly with client and/or client staff effectively and efficiently in order to accomplish client objectives and deliverables.


  • 2-5 years experience working in communications, digital strategy, advertising in political campaigns or a similarly relevant field and experience;

  • A deep understanding of Democratic political campaigns, their functionality, strategy and message execution, as well as a passion for the issues and movements our firm fights for;

  • Strong writing and analytical skills, including an ability to write both strategically and creatively under tight timelines;

  • Superb organizational skills as well as an ability to prioritize multiple projects while also paying strict attention to detail;

  • An ability to collaborate and thrive in a team setting but also a highly motivated self starter who will take complex projects to the next level;

  • Background of working in a high pressure environment, while being able to deliver projects under a tight deadline while staying composed in times of crisis;

  • Willingness to work long hours, including early mornings, evenings and weekends, as well as to travel outside of California;

  • A positive, open minded approach, willing to dive in with a no-task-is-too-small attitude.

Preferred Skills

  • Political campaign experience in more than one state;

  • Have experience with any of the following skills: digital advertising, and/or buying, measurement and analyzing online data sets, Google Analytics, Facebook Ads Manager, SQL, Python, R, Tableau or other visualization tools;

  • Comfort with standard design software including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign;

  • Background in graphic design with demonstrable understanding of composition and color;

  • Platform knowledge of Facebook, AdWords, AdCenter (Bing), Twitter, LinkedIn, or YouTube advertising;

  • Platform knowledge of CRM platforms such as MailChimp, Convio, Hubspot or similar platforms;

  • Knowledge of After Effects, Premier, or other video editing software;

  • Ability to speak more than one language.
